Feelings of Nostalgia

Recently I've been feeling very nostalgic for childhood films. I don't really know why, but I have been finding myself looking for jewelry with themes from some of my favourite childhood films. I should be tidying my bedroom as I write this, but after an encounter with a very big spider I have decided that I will not be going back in there any time soon. I may well sleep in the living room tonight!

Since I've been on one of my irresponsible spending sprees and I have next to no money, the only way for me to satisfy this longing is to put together some outfits inspired by four of my favourite childhood films.

Spotlight On: Spooky Cute

Yes, it's May. I know what you're thinking. Spooky Cute? But Halloween is five months away!

Trust me, bats and ghosties aren't just just for October 31st!

Ghost best friends: NerdyLittleSecrets / Drippy heart bat: rarasjewels / Ribcage: rarasjewels /
Bat charm: SugarJunkieShop / Kawaii ghost: rainnua / Pastel bone: KreepyKawaii /
Eyeball hairclip: KreepyKawaii / Skull keychain: Clotique

Spooky Cute (or Creepy Cute, Creepy Kawaii and the like) is a small but growing fashion that spawned from pastel goth, deco lolita and other Japanese street fashions. It's a typical example of juxtaposition - clashing creepy, gothic and gory motifs with pastel colours, glitter and cute faces...and it's surprisingly versatile!

Spooky Cute can vary from sugary to elegant - just take a trawl of Etsy - so it can be incorporated into many different types of wardrobe. Even just one little item like a hairclip can put a quirky spin on an outfit and a smile on your face! No matter what the time of year, a Spooky Cute piece can satisfy a craving for sugar or a need for something just that little bit odd...

Although it can work all year round, it is perfect at Halloween. Why not don some cute ghoulies in the week running up to Halloween to get everyone feeling festive?

So what do you think of Spooky Cute? Which of my picks is your favourite? Leave me a comment and let me know!

DIY: Cute ring for under £1!

Everyone loves to save a bit of money here and there, right? One way of doing this is to make your own jewellery - this ring cost me a grand total of 65p! (That's $1.01 for all you Americans). The high street or even online equivalent could have cost me up to £4, but I've made one just as good for £3.35 less. Winning! This is such an easy thing to do, it takes less than 5 minutes. I used a wooden strawberry bead, but you can use anything you want.

Done! You now have your very own cute ring~
